North and South Rivalry, without even playing each other
Ah yes, it is Post Season in Baseball and if you have been paying attention Chicagoans, both the North AND South side teams areĀ in it.But it’s not the rush of having both teams in the Post Season playoffs that amuses me. It’s the fact that even though the Cubs and Sox have made it, the rivalry continues, even though it is not Crosstown Classic Weekend.Last night I was sitting in a bar for karaoke night. The DJ happened to have been a Cubs fan and was sitting at the bar watching the Cubs vs. Dodgers game. He was there with three other people decked out in Cubby Blue.A few seats down were two Sox fans, also watching the game. Only they weren’t cheering, but heckling, the Fabulous Four as well as the game. Now before I continue, I do not favor one over the other. I’m more of a hockey person. But, I did feel bad for these Cubs fans, and yet, proud that they stood their ground and didn’t stoop to the level of this Sox fan.I know that may sound biased but here is how I see it….-The Cubs haven’t won a Series in 100 Years! That is an extremely long time, thanks to a goat. (Which I find to be a silly superstition.)-That being said, had the Sox not won a series in 100 years, I highly doubt they would be prancing around on their high horse.-The Sox won in 2005, that was 3 years ago. Get over yourselves Sox fans! You’re beating a dead horse.-I have yet to meet a Cubs fan that constantly throws punches at Sox fans. These past two days of Post Season games, I have seen more Sox fans shout things at Cubs fans during their games, than the other way around. Are you proud of the reputation you uphold as Sox fans? (It wouldn’t surprise me if you have no idea what I’m talking about. Sorry but a majority of Sox fans I meet wouldn’t know the difference between their ass and a hole in a head.)The fans of this South Side team remind me of the bully that just doesn’t know when to quit.I always hoped in the end the bully would get what was coming to them, so I wish the Cubs the best of luck in this next game. And if they don’t make it, I will keep my fingers crossed that the Sox also lose this Post Season battle. Not because I don’t want a Chicago team to win the Series this year, but because I feel it should’ve been the Cubs this time around….and a certain fan base of a South Side team needs to know what happens when you boast too much and heckle innocent fans of a team that worked hard and earned their way to the Post Season. Not held on by a tiny thread hoping and praying they make it. Enough is Enough.(A Sox loss would at least give those beaten Cubs fans something to laugh about)
